Favàritx Lighthouse is probably one of Menorca’s most iconic and striking landscapes. Located on the island’s north coast, within the s’Albufera des Grau Natural Park, it stands on a dramatic landscape of black slate shaped over millions of years by the forces of wind and sea.

Built in 1922 to warn sailors of the dangers of a coastline particularly exposed to the Tramuntana winds, the lighthouse overlooks a setting of almost lunar beauty: dark cliffs, rugged rocks and an intensely blue sea that contrasts with the starkness of the surrounding landscape.

Today it is one of the island’s most photographed landmarks and a privileged gateway to some of Menorca’s wildest natural spaces. Visiting at sunset, when the changing light transforms the colours of both the rocks and the sea, is an experience that is difficult to forget.
