Located in the heart of Mahón Harbour, Illa del Rei (King’s Island) is a small enclave steeped in history and symbolism. Its name comes from the arrival of King Alfonso III of Aragon in 1287, before the final conquest of Menorca.

During the British rule of the eighteenth century, the island was home to an important military hospital built to care for soldiers of the British fleet. Its neoclassical buildings, carefully restored over recent decades thanks to the work of the Illa del Rei Hospital Foundation, now form one of the most distinctive heritage sites on the island.

Today, the island combines historical heritage, contemporary art and a stunning maritime landscape. Reaching it by boat and walking along its peaceful paths is an experience that connects visitors with centuries of Mediterranean history.
